Abstract

Transferring stories from the screen to written form has a long history since Les Vampires (1915) produced a novel of the same name in seven editions. The French film was split into 10 episodes with different durations, starting on November 13, 1915 and ending on June 30, 1916. The novel, written by Feuillade and George Meirs, was later released in 1916. Twelve years later, London After Midnight (1928) appeared. novelized the film of the same title a year earlier in New York, United States. Uniquely, the film, which was distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, started with the idea of ​​a short story entitled The Hypnotist by the director, Tod Browning. Even more unique, still in this early period, the novelization of King Kong (1933) appeared two months before the film was released in New York. Novelization does not only "move", but has a political content in the marketing strategy of his main work, namely film. Novelization works then face a dilemma because on the one hand they feel part of literature or literary works, while on the other hand they are considered only to fulfill the needs of promoting a film. With a cultural studies approach, this paper tries to analyze how film novelization develops and offers new things for film lovers.
